The Violence Against Women Act did not expire on September 30… Congress extended its authorization until December 7, 2018, at which time Congress will need to take action to reauthorize VAWA.
It is important to remember that only the grants funded under VAWA "expire" and require reauthorization. The amendments and new federal laws established under VAWA, including special tribal jurisdiction, the habitual offender provision, and similar provisions do not require reauthorization and are permanent.
